Introduction to VALIN
The Virginia Leads Innovation Network (VALIN) is a vital initiative that connects educational innovators across Virginia. Its primary goal is to enhance educational strategies and promote actions that align with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate. This network facilitates collaboration among educators to discover, utilize, and exchange effective practices tailored to improve student outcomes.
Creating a Community of Practice
Teams within the VALIN framework engage in a year-long community of practice, designed to inspire local innovation initiatives. These teams convene during cohort segments to generate ideas and implement innovative solutions to educational challenges. By employing a supportive coaching model, VALIN emphasizes the importance of expanding deeper learning strategies and ensuring equitable participation in enriching learning experiences for all students.
Focus on the 5 C’s
At the core of VALIN’s mission is the development of complex competencies, known as the 5 C’s: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and citizenship. These competencies are essential for students’ long-term success in their homes, communities, and future workplaces. As innovation teams within VALIN explore and assess various educational strategies, they share valuable resources—including artifacts and support materials—through both in-person and virtual channels, effectively reaching educators throughout the Commonwealth.
