Since 2019, five cohorts of Lead Innovation Teams from across the Commonwealth have joined VaLIN to advance deeper learning, expand equity, and increase learner engagement in their divisions.

Cohort 1 (2019–2020)
Twenty eight school divisions participated in the initial VaLIN cohort, building local partnerships, testing deeper learning strategies, and creating practical models aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate.

Cohort 2 (2020–2021)
Thirty five school divisions participated in Cohort 2 and experienced unique circumstances as the pandemic reshaped how teams could meet, coach, and collaborate.

Cohort 3 (2021–2022)
Using a hybrid virtual/in-person model, twenty five school divisions participated in Cohort 3 — from application through a full year of coaching, networking events, and a culminating celebration.

Cohort 4 (2022–2023)
Thirty school divisions participated in the rebranded Virginia Leads Innovation Network, continuing the shift toward continuous professional development within a cohort of committed educators.
Cohort 5
Across five cohorts, educators have collaborated through a shared model of coaching, networked learning, and local action — each cohort building on the lessons of the one before it.
